The 56th Annual Meetings of the New York State Sociological Association will be hosted by Buffalo State College in October of 2008.
Tim McCorry of Buffalo State College has been elected President of the New York State Sociological Association
The Undergraduate Student Paper Award went to Rebecca Kieber Grady of the State University of New York at Fredonia for her paper on ‘Microcredit, the Elimination of Poverty and the Empowerment of Women: Mythical Discourse or Reality’. Tim Delany of SUNY Oswego the Treasurer for NYSSA, a past President of the organization as well as one of the three judges for this competition presented Rebecca the cash award and certificate. The other two judges were Korni S. Kumar from SUNY Brockport and Janet Michello of LaGuardia Community College CUNY New York.
The Graduate Student Paper Award went to Shannon M. Monnat of the State University of New York at Albany for her paper on ‘Who Gets Cut Off? A Multilevel Analysis of Welfare Sanctions’ Susanne Bleiberg Seperson of Dowling College also a past President of the organization and one of the three judges for this competition presented Shannon the cash award and certificate. The other two judges were Linda Dorsten from SUNY Fredonia and Timothy McCorry from Buffalo State College.
NYSSA Award for Professional Commitment, Excellence & Distinguished Service was awarded to Paul T. Murray of Siena College. Carol Poll of the Fashion Institute of Technology a past President and past Recipient of this award was invited to give away the Award
